A Well Oiled Point-of-Purchase Solution Drives Sales
A leading retailer with a nationwide footprint wants to reset more than 4,500 stores throughout the U.S. and Mexico with a proven shelf solution within an extremely tight timeframe.
Exceed expectations and deliver a massive proprietary point-of-purchase retail tray order to a nationwide retailer 11 weeks ahead of schedule.
The glide tray product is a sturdy, easy to install solution that reduces time stocking and organizing shelves while driving sales.
Maybe it’s the tough economy, or the ongoing love of rolling up their sleeves that motivates people to change their oil. Whichever the case, when it comes to vehicle maintenance consumers want to spend more time enjoying the open road than searching store shelves for the right products for their vehicles.
Consumer shopping requirements and the need to deliver an organized system to display hundreds of quarts and jugs of oil in a wide array of brands and formulas were the key factors this nationwide retailer weighed when redesigning the store set. In advance of the busy spring season, the retailer set its sights on rolling out the new display in new and all existing retail locations in the U.S. and Mexico.
Fortunately, the retailer had a three year relationship with Pexco that included several retail point-of-purchase parts throughout the store as well as the design, development and roll-out of the customized Glide Tray shelf, a complex, tight tolerance multi-grooved component system, which was then in place at select locations. This was an opportunity to bring a consistent product set to more than 4,000 additional locations.
This shelf solution consists of coextruded and extruded components including a label holder, dividers and a glide tray. But, just as a well-oiled machine must meet the need for speed, there was a tight deadline of just 39 weeks for the system pieces to be extruded, co-extruded, kitted and shipped.
Pexco’s team including dedicated customer service contact Cindy Hua and plant manager Ken Des Camp, who partnered with the client and coordinated distribution of more than 3200 kits, which required processing more than 4,300 purchase orders and loading up more than 18-30 tractor trailer truckloads each week.
Knowing that there would be zero tolerance for reshipping orders or kits with missing parts, Pexco set out to go above and beyond. The plant scheduled three shifts per day and added weekends to extrude and coextruded millions of pounds of styrene, butyrate and plastics materials. For context, this order comprised enough kits that when placed side-by-side would cover more than 10 football fields.
By working together, the team was able to exceed expectations by delivering all of the kits in just 18 weeks -- 11 weeks ahead of schedule.
Today, more than 1.5 million oil jugs are in order and ready for customer selection thanks to the Pexco Glide Tray solution. Because of the great work, the relationship with the retailer has expanded and the team is currently rolling up its sleeves for its next project.
