Important: For fence heights higher than 8 feet, we strongly advise NOT to double-stack Winged Slats®. If you double-stack, you will be at risk of the Winged Slats® not all giving the same visual appearance or giving the same privacy effect on the top and bottom portions of the fence.
Fence Winged Slat® Products Frequently Asked Questions
Do winged slats need a locking channel?
No. Winged Slat® is self-locking — no channel is required. Each slat has flexible winged sections along both sides, and serrations on the wings grip the wire mesh to hold the slat in position while also closing the diagonal gaps that standard flat slats leave open. These are friction-fitting slats, so allow additional time for installation.
What are winged slats made of?
Winged Slat® is extruded from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) with color pigments and ultraviolet (UV) inhibitors. The wings also contain Ethyl Vinyl Acetate (EVA), a softer plastic that keeps them flexible and resilient — that flexibility is what lets the serrated wings grip the mesh without a channel.
Will Winged Slat fit my fence?
Winged Slat® is made for 2″ mesh in 9 gauge only — narrower than most PDS slats, because the wings need a specific diamond size to grip. If your fence is 11 or 11½ gauge, Feather Lock® or LiteLink® will fit; for 11, 11½ or 12 gauge at approximately 90% privacy, use FinLink®. Each bag holds 82 slats and covers 10 linear feet.
Can I double-stack winged slats on a fence taller than 8 feet?
We strongly advise against it. On fences over 8 feet, double-stacked Winged Slats® risk an uneven appearance and inconsistent privacy between the upper and lower sections of the fence. Winged Slat is stocked in 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8-foot heights. For fences of 10 or 12 feet, use Top Lock, Bottom Lock, Feather Lock® or LiteLink®, or Fin2000® and Industrial Pre-Woven if you’re specifying pre-woven fabric.
